Nurse’s CarePlan: Dare to Rest
Wouldn’t it be lovely to have a care plan, not for a patient, but just for you?
The Daring to Rest Nurses’ Care Plan puts you front and centre (at last!).
With this 3-step process you’ll allow yourself to rest and heal at physical, mental/ emotional and soul level – even if you’re exhausted, shattered and heading for post-pandemic burnout.
You trudge through each looong, gruelling shift in the hospital on tired, wired autopilot, imagining all you’ll accomplish in your time off – then spend it moving from couch to bed with your snacks, finishing Netflix in one sitting.
Your circadian rhythm is completely messed up by changing shift patterns, leaving you barely able to drive home after a nightshift with your eyes open, then wide awake an hour later cursing your noisy kids or the traffic going by your window.
You use up all your niceness on your patients and your family tiptoe around your moods at home.
You have abundant energy and buzz through each and every shift at the hospital or clinic. You also have plenty of energy left over to enjoy family life, hobbies, and personal projects on your days off. You’re sleeping better and wake up rested- even after 3/3.
You feel clear-headed and focused as you listen to the report at the beginning of each shift, and still have this mental clarity as you communicate the day’s events to the next shift.
You’ve come to rediscover the invincible calm and genuine compassion inside that made you want to be a nurse in the first place as you help your patients and their families cope with all outcomes.
You clearly know and communicate your wishes, needs and boundaries to your employers, people you work with, and your family.
All of this is within your reach, but you’re just so weary that you can’t see the wood for the trees iykwim. What you need – actually, what you deserve – is a care plan, tailored just for you, what you need is The Nurse’s Care Plan: Dare to Rest.
The Nurse’s Rest Care Plan is the nearest thing to having your own private self- care and rest coach on call, guiding you to easily and consistently create restful & healthy practices and incorporate them into your life and become long term habits.
So how does the Nurse’s Care Plan: Dare to Rest work?
First, get free from physical exhaustion. Instantly & effortlessly. In minutes, honestly.
Next, experience a mental and emotional letting go. Let your stress levels dissolve like salt in water.
Finally, a soul-level revival.Rediscover your life purpose and your lust for life at work and at home.
THE CREATOR of THE NURSE’S CARE PLAN
Ann McMahon here, your friendly virtual nurse rest coach. I have been working in healthcare for over 30 years. In my (often simultaneous) roles as nurse, carer, parent, childbirth educator and acupuncturist I came to realise that rest is so often the forgotten child, in both orthodox and complementary health. In my experience it is the missing piece of the puzzle that is hidden way under the couch with the dust bunnies. I want to bring (boring, unsexy) rest back into the spotlight.
I wasn’t born knowing this. Well, maybe I was -but like most of us- I un-learnt it over the years. Late nights studying, partying, nightshifts and later wakeful children led me to think exhaustion was just integral to my personality. I was great at telling my patients & clients to take it easy, not to over do things, to mind themselves- but terrible at taking my own advice. As a nurse, and as a mother and carer for older parents being all things to all people is part of the unwritten job description. I learned the techniques in this programme over time and was confident using them with others, but it took an embarrassingly long time before the penny dropped and I started using them myself. I struggled -ironically enough – and still struggle at times to wean myself away from see-sawing from incessant busyness and activity to doom scrolling on my phone. But I’ve never given up and I’ve discovered that building Daring to Rest ™ naps and all the other practices contained in the care plan into my life result in more time, energy, clarity and positivity in every part of my life. Eventually i realised it was too good not to share so I’m genuinely thrilled to offer you my Care Plan – so you can leapfrog through the process in 12 weeks.
First, we start to heal physical exhaustion.
Fatigue and nursing go hand in hand. Physically demanding work, long hours and night shifts mean we often drag ourselves through work and life in survival mode. Introducing the Daring to Rest ™ yoga nidra nap. Within minutes, we can blissfully & effortlessly feel exhaustion leaving the body.
Next, we heal mental and emotional exhaustion. Once the physical body is relaxed, we can think more clearly and freely. Remember waking up smiling as 4-year-old you, with no stress, no obligations or responsibilities? How would you like to recapture that feeling of freedom and clarity? I’ll show you how with guided daily naps and exercises.
Finally, we can rise up rejuvenated, finding a sense of renewed purpose at soul level. Using insights from the Daring to rest ™ process, and a series of tailored inquiry, you can recapture your innate calm and focus, gathering your inner resources and become reacquainted with your true nature.
Each module follows a distinct process, with which all nurses are really familiar. I call it The Restroom Process:
Your current needs, lifestyle, challenges. What’s working? What isn’t.
How you can incorporate changes into your life.
A suite of daily practices for 12 weeks.
What do you want to keep? Where do you need to pivot?
Have you ever thought of applying it to your own needs? Obvious, right? But I bet you never have done.
Together we make our way through each module, applying it to your own unique set of circumstances. The best part is, you’ll enjoy it all, and not only will you emerge rested, you’ll have a better understanding of yourself and how you best operate in this funny old pandemic world in which we find ourselves.
- Confidential Facebook group.
Sometimes it is really hard, or even impossible to be open with your co-workers? Nurses are meant to be the calm ones, and to always have their shit together. Keep your game face on. Unfortunately, co-workers can also contribute to or even cause our stress. Once you sign up for the Care Plan, you know you’re amongst like-minded nurses. You’ll be able to share your progress and challenges with other nurses with similar needs in a confidential online space.
I’ll also be available in the group on a daily basis to help guide you through the Plan.
- All peopled out? The first 10 Care Planners to sign up also get Voxer office hours with me – once a week for the 12 weeks of the Plan. How does that work? Shoot me a text or voice note on Voxer with your thoughts, dilemmas, wins. I’ll have a think and reply to you as soon as I can.
- Extra audios – micro naps. 5 minute meditations for when you’re really under time pressure.

“Failure to Plan is planning to Fail”
I’m a trained health-care professional. Why would I sign up, I know this stuff already?
Yes, you are no doubt very knowledgeable, but most likely about illness rather than health. The nature of the work is we focus on what can go wrong rather than what could go right with out bodies and minds. Also yes, a good few hours study and extensive googling could give you access to most, if not all the information here. Its not the third secret of Fatima. But why haven’t you done so already? And if you’ve read this far…something is ringing true for you.
How can I add another thing to my busy schedule?
So here’s the thing about this Care Plan. Once you make the commitment, the Plan is designed and structured so that rest becomes an easy and integral part of your lifestyle, one that you can tailor to completely suit your unique schedule or lack-of (shiftwork again). You can do it anytime of day, from when you first wake up to right before you sleep. Also, did I mention, the Plan is really enjoyable & you’ll look forward to practising .
Do I need any special equipment?
A smartphone, a blanket, a journal, earphones if you like them. You can add a small pebble or crystal, a yoga mat or eye pillow if you’re feeling fancy.
I can’t mediate, how can I do this?
Neither can I! But I can do this and enjoy it. Firstly, I’ll guide you through it. Plus, there’s something about the sequence of instructions that gently lures you into a more blissful state before you know it.
Is this a woo-woo thing?
Depends on your definition of woo. Its based on an ancient practice originating in India, adapted, with its many benefits now confirmed in scientific studies. I also include elements of Chinese medicine and Western psychology.
